A dog named Cupid watched his family pack their bags, walk away from their house, and leave him on the porch. He thought if he waited long enough his family would come back and get him. Cupid wasn’t sure why this was happening or why he couldn’t join them. He waited there for weeks until neighbor Janine Guido, founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, called.
“They just told me his owners had moved out and left him behind,” says Janine.
I asked a lot of other people if they knew anything about the dog and they just said, “You’ve moved.”
Janine says she saw Cupid eat from a trash can. She tried to get closer to him, but he was scared and ran back to his seat on the porch. He scratched the door and tried to enter. Janine tried to convince Cupid to eat something, but the dog refused.
Janine tried for half an hour to gain this dog’s trust, but nothing worked when it suddenly occurred to her to tell Cupid that everything would be fine. “It sounds silly, but I swear I knew what I was saying,” says Janine. “He literally came and sat down and let me tie him up.”
He was a good boy all the way home!
Cupid quickly reached the refuge and gradually adapted to his new makeshift home. “He’s been the nicest gentleman since he came in,” says Janine. “You can say that he is still very confused. But he’s happy to meet you all.
Cupid has not yet completed all of his vet checks, but once he gets the “OK” he can return home forever. Janine is very optimistic about Cupid and the idea that he will soon find a new home and a loving family. “I don’t think it’s hard to find because he really is the nicest guy,” she says.
